Solvent printing
Peculiarities of solvent printing
Solvent printing is a type of ink jet printing, where a composition based on solvent is used as ink. Due to solvent such inks erode the top layer of the material and allow color pigments to take hold in it. This type of printing is sufficiently resistant to external factors (sun, water, temperature and humidity fluctuations) and versatile.
Some 10 years ago, solvent printing was the most popular in the world method of roll materials coverage for large format outdoor advertising.
Today, it is still widely used exclusively for large format products, where it is necessary to cover large areas and high printing resolution is not required.
Generally, such images are viewed at a distance from a few dozen to several hundred meters. This area of using solvent printing is explained by its properties:
Advantages:
– minimum cost of ink (3-4 times cheaper than other types of ink for large format printing);
– resistance to all kinds of external influences;
Disadvantages:
– solvent in the ink is harmful for the health and the environment;
– the ink has strong smell, which does not disappear for a long time;
– it is difficult to achieve high printing resolution necessary for indoor advertising.
