Printing by whitewash

Peculiarities of printing by whitewash

White ink significantly expands the boundaries of regular full color printing and enables designers to implement effective and original ideas. Without this color it is impossible to print on transparent materials keeping color accuracy.

At the same time, whitewash is the most difficult color to work with. Univest Advertising Production employs the technology of HP Indigo digital offset for promotional print with whitewash. Today, among all the varieties of digital printing equipment only HP Indigo machines allow to obtain guaranteed stability and result when working with whitewash.

With our company, in Kiev, you can order whitewash print of any circulation starting from 1 copy. Whitewash may be printed in one or more layers. Depending on the desired effect, the white ink may be applied on the material prior to full color (underlying whitewash) or over the image (opaque).

How does the print go?

Action 1

Creation of a layout with a separate layer for the white ink

Action 2

Step 6

Ink transfer on to the blanket cylinder with rubber

Action 5

Applying HP ElectroInk ink on the plate cylinder

Action 4

Formation of images using the charge on the plate cylinder

Action 7

Ink transfer from the rubber to paper

What materials can be used for print?

By using digital offset technology, white ink may be applied to the entire range of materials suitable for printing. But particularly these are colored design paper and cardboard, as well as transparent films.
When used on colored surfaces, whitewash primarily is needed to create the effect of “white paper” under the full color image. Accurate reproduction of corporate colors or Pantone colors approved in the brand book of a particular brand is only possible on a white background.
Quite often, white ink is used as a contrasting pattern on dark papers. With this color, you can simulate, for example, snow on a Christmas card.
Selective white color on transparent or metallized adhesive films allows you to create very noticeable and original stickers for advertising on glass walls, shopfronts, windows of subway and other public transport

What can be printed?

Traditionally stickers, labels or stickers on transparent self-adhesive films are printed with whitewash. These products are used for branding of products, for applying temporary information, for creating informative packaging.
The second popular group of products is elite or souvenir print: cards, invitations, presentation folders, menus. Colored paper is often used in this type of items.
Popular sandwich stickers (when the information is applied to the film on both sides, for the observers on the street and inside) cannot be made without a layer of whitewash. In this case, white ink usually printed in several runs for higher density, acts as a light-blocking layer which allows two different images not to “shine” on each other, being applied on the same film.
